What I Wore For My Engagement Pictures

This past weekend, my fiance (still getting used to calling him that!) and I had our engagement pictures!

IMG_7582To be honest, I was very much on the fence about whether or not we should get pictures done in the first place. I decided that I may regret it down the line if we did not.

The morning of the pictures, the forecast looked absolutely terrible, as in 100% chance of rain all day long. Thank goodness, we were in luck, and the rain stayed away long enough for us to squeeze in our pictures. Yay! Now we are just crossing our fingers that we were not too awkward and the pictures turn out beautifully!

Here is what I decided to wear for our pictures:

Outfit #1

Top: Maurices

Army Green Jacket: Maurices

Jeans: Kohls (Denezin by Levis)

Booties: Famous Footwear

Outfit #2

Lace front Top: Target

Puffy Vest: Kohls

Shoes: Blowfish

I wore the same jeans as outfit #1

Let me know if you would like to see the outfits that Paul wore to go with mine 🙂

I got engaged, WHAT!?

First, I want to say how sorry I am that it has been so long since I posted for ya’ll. I wish I had some great excuse, but let’s get real, sometimes life just “gets in the way”.

On August 28th, a random Monday afternoon, I got engaged! I can honestly say, 100%, without a doubt, I was not expecting my day to end in engagement. I left work, called Paul, and we talked about grocery shopping and our plans for the night. Typical Monday after work stuff. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, which is weird because Paul normally has a terrible time hiding anything.

I walk in the door, and see this:

IMG_6967My first thought was, what in the world is this, and when in the world did he have time to do this? I immediately yelled “WHEN DID YOU COME HOME TODAY!” && I got no response.  I then ran around the house and looked to see how far this whole rose path went.

IMG_6969.JPGI then went to the beginning and started following the directions of the game Paul had set up all throughout our little house. All the while, I still had no idea I was about to be proposed to. All of the pieces of paper throughout the house were filled with sweet notes & I suddenly began to get the feeling that perhaps a proposal was coming, based upon what some of the notes said. The voice inside my head kept reminding me that there is no way Paul would propose on a random Monday. Plus he had seemed to normal when we had talked on the phone just shortly before all of this. I was just being silly, and so Boy, was I wrong.

I went through the house, reading the notes, playing this game. Then, I get to the back door, and was instructed to open the door to finish the “game”. Of course, being who I am, I peeked out the window first. Paul had no idea I was peeking, and I could tell he was nervous. At this point, I told myself : “girlfriend, you’re about to be proposed to”.

I opened the door, he got down on one knee, and plain and simply said: “will you marry me?”. The rest is history.

IMG_6977(Not gonna lie, after the excitement settled just a tad, I quickly painted my nails before I took a single ring picture. Shhh, Don’t tell anyone my secret.)

So far, wedding planning has been so much fun & I cannot wait to share more of the process with ya’ll. We will officially be married October 20th, 2018!

IMG_6706 (1)

1 1/2 L Avocado Oil $11.99

2 1L Glass Bottles Lemon Juice $7.99

Black Olives (8 Cans) $9.99

Spice Island Taco Seasoning (245 oz) $5.69

Minced Garlic 1.36 kg  $4.79

Pretzel Thins 28 oz $6.59

Granulated Garlic 18 oz $5.49

6 Count (32 oz) Organic Unsweetened Almond Milk (Vanilla) $6.99

Frozen Pizzas (12 single pizzas) $9.99img_6711-1.jpg

Grand Total : $80,exactly.

(My even number loving heart was ecstatic to hear that number. )

Things on my list that we decided against:

Hummus – I was hoping they would have had a new kind, I’m burnt out on the one I always buy.

Cooking Spray-  It was a great deal if you like canola oil spray. I personally like to buy the olive oil or coconut oil type.

Bananas – They were all VERY green, and the price was about the same as the Aldi price.

Peanut Butter- Totally just forgot.

Things that brought me joy in July

The Body Company: Aromatherapy Collection/ Turmeric & Sweet Orange

Turmeric and essential oils in a body wash? Dreams do come true. I could not say no when I saw this bad boy at TJMaxx. I honestly was not sure about the orange scent, but it is super nice. The scent is not too strong & really does have a subtle way of uplifting my mood & making me feel relaxed. If we’re being honest, not sure what the benefits of turmeric in a body wash are, but I have been taking turmeric supplements for months & love them, so why not?

Garnier:  Micellar Cleansing Water

Late to the game on this one.I know micellar water has been popular for quite awhile now , but I have never been one to try things right when they become a thing. I finally thought I’d try it out when it was on sale one day. It seriously takes off all of my makeup and does not make my skin feel gross. Plus, I’ve had this for awhile and the bottle is still super full. Definitely better than constantly spending money on makeup remover wipes.

Lemon Shine : Dish Detergent Booster

We had been having so many problems with our dishes still being dirty out of the dishwasher as well as some serious water spots on glass dishes. I was hesitant about this one, especially because of the price. It’s honestly not that expensive, but I am pretty cheap. This stuff works wonders. It also is another product that goes a long way and the package has lasted much longer than I anticipated. I will caution that it works so well that it has taken some of the pictures/writing off of a few of our coffee mugs. Don’t use this if one of your most treasured pieces is in the dishwasher.

Rosemary Essential Oil

I love rosemary essential oil for my hair. I had been using it solely on the roots of my hair. Drop a few drops throughout your roots, let it sit for awhile, wash hair as normal. I recently decided to try putting it on my ends of my hair as well. Such a good choice because it has been helping my hair even more than before. Love it.

My mom & I went to the spa and I had my very first facial. The experience was so wonderful and relaxing. If you’ve ever thought about getting a facial, I say you totally should!

What did you love in July? Let me know. Have an amazing August!

Engagement Due Date?

On July 6th, Paul (my boyfriend), and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary. SEVEN years. Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday, sometimes it feels like a whole lifetime has gone by since then. SO many life events have happened since that day we met. I would not want anyone else by my side.

Ever since about college graduation (Was that really 3 years ago now? Yes, Maggie, it was. You’re getting old.), the hot topic has been an engagement. I know, I know, that becomes one of the hot topic questions asked of any recent college grad. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in a relationship for years, one day, just met someone an hour ago, or are so far away from a relationship it’s not even funny ; the question probably comes up at least once shortly after graduation day.

For us though, the question is most often revolved around the fact that we have been dating for so long. It is to the point where if we had a dime for every time someone questioned either of us about an engagement; we could just about pay for our wedding, our first house, retirement, a vacation home, and supporting 6 kids throughout their whole life (props to you if you could raise 6 kids). Totally an exaggeration of course, but you get my point. I know most mean well and are just curious, I totally do. Yet, there seems to be some kind of due date for a marriage proposal. After so much dating time, a proposal automatically must come with it. Our world is full of deadlines and timelines. Relationships and marriage proposals should not have one.

There also shouldn’t be an expiration date on a relationship simply because a marriage proposal has not happened yet. Yes, people have asked if I am afraid that my boyfriend is not willing to commit if he has not popped the question yet. Or been told that I better move on because 7 years is just too long to wait for an engagement. So is 7 years of dating and continued support is not commitment? Also, what kind of relationship partner would I be if I jumped ship just because I don’t have a ring on my finger?

I am not in a hurry for a proposal and I would never rush him for one. The proposal will come when he is ready.  When we are both ready. We have talked about marriage, more times than I can count. We both know that it is in the cards. That hand just hasn’t been dealt yet. Every relationship is different, we all know this. Every proposal time-line is different, too. And that is okay, my friends.

Dryer Sheets: More Than Just Laundry

Dryer sheets. Most of us have seen ’em, most of us have used ’em.

When you think dryer sheets, your first thought is probably laundry. Unless somehow I’m the only one that makes that correlation?

Those little sheets are great for laundry of course, but they are useful for so much more. Gotta love anything that can be used for more than one purpose.

  1. Stinky shoes. I honestly never had a problem with stinky shoes before. Boy do I now. Gross. Once the shoes start to stink, you really cannot get the stink out. Unless you’ve found the trick, then let a girl know. Throwing a few dryer sheets in the shoes does help a bit, though. I would recommend using dryer sheets even in your newer shoes, before the stink starts to settle in to its’ new home.
  2. Car air freshener. I will admit, this one came from my boyfriend. All you do is open up a box of dryer sheets and hide them under a seat in your car. Instant freshness throughout the whole car.
  3. Place a few in your travel bag or suitcase. Your clothes and such will stay smelling fresh even throughout your travels. Plus, when you go to put the suitcase away, leave a few in there and the smell will stay. I also use this trick in my purses that I am not currently using.
  4. Keep those pesky mosquitoes away. Honestly, I am a mosquito magnet and pretty much nothing in this world can keep them away from me. People I love have used this trick and it works wonders for them, though.
  5. Garbage can. Throw one in before you place your trash bag in the can.
  6. Hide some under your couch cushions or simply throw one under the couch.
  7. Freshen up the bed. Throw one inside your pillow case. If you have a duvet cover, place a few inside the cover before closing that bad boy up. Place a few on your mattress before putting on your fitted sheet.
  8.  Sayonara static & frizz. Put one through the brissels of your brush to tame those fly-aways.
  9. Dusting. I would not recommend this with a new dryer sheet because they are too rough and you may scratch whatever you are dusting, but re-use one from the laundry.  Catch ya later dust bunnies. I really love this one for base boards.
  10. Place a few in your drawers or in the closet. Pretty much ANYWHERE around the house that needs a little smell face lift, throw a dryer sheet in there my friend.
  11. Clean chrome. Make those faucets shine.
  12. Get rid of that soap scum in the bathroom. Wet the dryer sheet a bit before you try this one.
  13. Have squeaky shoes? Rub a dryer sheet on the soles of your shoes. No more awkward squeaky as you walk through the quiet office.
  14. Get rid of musty odors wherever necessary.  Dryer sheets will work wonders to get rid of those musty smells, you just might have to use a handful depending on how bad the smell is. Or the whole box, ya just never know.
  15. Smell good storage. Place some in your plastic bins or boxes that are going to be stored away in whatever hiding place you choose. This works for not only clothing storage, but also all of those holiday decorations. Especially if you are like me and have to store things in a shed outside.
  16. Laundry related hack. Use the used dryer sheet to help clean out the lint from the lint catcher thingy ma bob.

There are probably even more uses for the good old dryer sheet that I have not discovered yet, but these are some tried and true uses that I have tested and use often. Let me know if you have any other creative uses for those bad boys.

PS, if you have a Costco membership, you can buy a pack of 500 dryer sheets for a super good deal.

25 things I’ve realized in 25 years

In honor of turning 25 a few weeks ago, I thought I would sit down and go through just some of the life lessons I have learned/realized along the way.  I would like to think that there are more than 25 things too.

I would also like to point out that although I have realized these lessons in life, it does not mean that I am good at remembering them or accepting them.

Image (94)

One: Mornings are wonderful. This one is a relatively recent revelation. I certainly have not always been a morning person. I’ve learned that there is something wonderful about early mornings. Plus, you just get so much more done in the day (usually, calling myself out for all the lazy days I still have).

Maggies 1st_00004A

Two: Lazy days are good. Lazy days are important. Sometimes I feel like I need to spend my days off working on a to-do list a mile long. I am learning to let myself enjoy lazy days, and know that sometimes your girl just needs them.

Christmas 1994_00009A

Three: Friends are really hard to come by,especially good friends.  Love the ones you have. Cherish them, and remind them of how important they are to you. Don’t let the good ones get away.

Maggies 3rd_00016A

Four: With that, it is okay to let friends go. People are forever changing. Don’t keep bad friends in your life or people that bring you down. As hard as it is, it is important to remember that not everyone is meant to be in your life forever.

Christmas 1996_00004A

Five: No matter what you do in life, there is always going to be someone that does not agree with you, and there are always going to be people that just don’t like you.

Maggies 5th_00002A

Six: Pictures really are worth a thousand words. Take more of them. Not all memories last forever.

Kid Pic Prep 1998_00002A

Seven: There is so much beauty in this world. Take the time to notice it.

Maggies 7th_00004A

Eight: Cherish the little things. Look for the good in every day.

Summer 2000_00034A

Nine: Smile more. I admit 100% that I am a person with major RBF (Resting. Bitch. Face). It is a terrible habit. I am trying to work on that. One smile just might make another person’s day.

Ten: You are the only person you can truly rely on. You can have the most amazing people in your life, but at some point, probably multiple points, they are going to let you down. They just are.

Eleven: You are going to let yourself down too. Don’t be to hard on yourself when you do.

Twelve: Say yes more. Say yes to new experiences. As someone who lives with anxiety, it is hard to say yes to new things and new experiences.Heck, sometimes it is hard to say yes to things that I have done many times. Just say yes, it’s really not that hard.

Thirteen: Know that it is also important to say no. No can be a completely valid response. Don’t be afraid to say no when it is.

Fourteen: Holding a grudge is not worth it. The only person that it hurts is yourself. Learn to let go.

Fifteen: Forgiveness is important. Forgiveness is not for the other person/people, forgiveness is for you.

Sixteen: It is okay to go out in public with no makeup. I’ve never been a full face of makeup kinda gal, but I used feel like I had to at least throw on some concealer and mascara before heading out the door. Now I’ll roll out in mismatched clothes with absolutely no makeup on and be totally okay. Don’t like how I look? Don’t look at me!

100-0024_IMG (1)

Seventeen: Sometimes you just have to eat a cheeseburger, french fries, a large pizza, and a gallon size bag of sour patch kids. And don’t freak out when it happens. Eating healthy is so important, but ya gotta live people, ya gotta live!

Eighteen: Life is not fair. Bad things happen when you least expect them. Try not to let the bad things bring you down more than they need to.

Nineteen: Planning for the future is so important. Especially when it comes to saving money. Just don’t let that take over. Remember to live in the moment.  Don’t get too caught up in the future.

Christmas 20111 010

Twenty: Be kind to everyone you meet.

Twenty-One: You never know what people are going through. Everyone goes through tough stuff, no matter how good they are at hiding it.

Twenty-Two: Drink LOTS of water. You can never have too much water. Actually, I’m pretty sure you can, but let’s not get too technical. Water is so good for you, drink up my friends.

Twenty-Three: Alone time is good for you. So much of our time is spent around other people. You have to take time for yourself.

Maggie 2015

Twenty-Four: Life is full of serious stuff. Don’t get too caught up in that. Remember to laugh, be silly, and have fun.

Twenty-Five: It is okay to not have your life all figured out. I thought that by 25 I would have my life all together, I really did. I thought for sure I would be married, have the best job ever, and a few kids in the mix. I am currently 25, not married, no kids, and I have a good job, but not the best job ever. People at 105 don’t have their life all figured out. I don’t think anyone ever does. That’s okay.
